1) You're allowed to have two character accounts. One for regular RPing as your favorite character, and one for this challenge.
2) Your house will be randomly determined based upon the result of a random number generator. One of the administrators will randomly choose a house for you and your job will be to design your character with some of that house's goals in mind. NOTE: If you absolutely hate the house you're in, consider that you don't have to be the stereotype for your house. For example, Hermione Granger seemed like a model Ravenclaw but she had some characteristics such as bravery and courage that the sorting hat found made her more of a Gryffindor. You don't have to be a nerdy Ravenclaw, pure evil Slytherin or goody-goody Gryffindor (Can't think of a stereotype for Huffles..). You simply need to incorporate some aspects of that house in your character's design.
3) Please post an introductory biography for your new character as a blog post. At the top of the page is a link called "My Blog" that will take you to the blog portion of the site. Think of the blog feature as posts you can put up that others can comment on but which stay in your own area. I'd like this to see some creativity, so posting physical characteristics, a general likeness (do try to be a bit original if it's a photo, eh?), personality traits, a sample RP, any of that is up to your imagination.
4) Remember, the goal is to write about a character OUTSIDE your general comfort zone. The challenge comes in creating a unique good-oriented character if you happen to play the super-evil characters often, or trying a character with a darker side if you happen to only play characters that are super-good.
5) Post a reply in this forum with your main account. An admin will assign you your house, then you can go ahead and create your new character's account. We'll change that character's house to the one that was randomly selected for you, and you'll be all set. You should post with your main account because it's possible that the house you were selected for will change the name you'd like for your character.
Other considerations: Aside from a personality change, it can be interesting (but certainly not required) to try role-playing a character of the opposite gender. People most often play a character of their own gender, and that is perfectly fine, but for a bit of an added twist, you could try a character of another gender. PLEASE, only consider this if you think you can portray the character in a mature way. It becomes rather dull if "Cindy Imagirl" spends her days looking in a mirror and fixing her makeup between classes so she can totally kiss that awesome quidditch player. You know what I mean here
Certain items/medals will be rewarded for A) Just trying this out, B) Using the character regularly and C) Being voted for having the best new character (as determined by forum posts and such).
Lastly, not all posts will contain the values that the administrators use to determine which house a Character Challenge character will be in. This could be for several reasons, the best one is that we'd like a close to even number of characters to be in each house. Now, given enough random characters that would be the case, but at the start of this it's possible we could get 6 Gryffindors, 2 Ravenclaws, 3 Hufflepuffs and 1 Slytherin, which wouldn't be too balanced. If more than 1-2 of a single house is ahead, random chance will favor the houses that are a little behind.
